A radiation threat, from such sources as a "dirty bomb", a "radiological dispersion device (RDD)", or radiation leaks from a nuclear power facility can cause great concern but reacting calmly is your number one defense. In the case of dirty bombs and RDDs, a deliberate attempt is made to set off common explosives that spread radioactive materials over a targeted area; they are not a nuclear blast because the force of the explosion and radioactive contamination will be more localized. In the case of a nuclear power plant radiation leak, the leak will usually be triggered by an accident, and the extent of the leak will be dependent on the force of the explosion, the weather patterns, the location of the plant, and other factors. While a blast will be immediately obvious, the presence and extent of leaks and radiation will not be clearly defined until trained personnel with specialized equipment are on the scene. As with any radiation, you will need to immediately try and limit your exposure. In particular, it is important to avoid breathing radiological dust that may be released in the air.

Add to myYahoo! We looked at the arc controller, and interviewed creator Brian Crabtree, early this year. In a way, the design is as much conceptual, kinetic sculpture attached to a computer as it is music hardware. It’s not for everyone, but it does inspire some sound designers and composers whose work I love, giving it a secondary … Continue →

Add to myYahoo! There are numerous reasons why you might wish to scan a book. For instance, if a beloved book falls apart on you, scanning its pages will enable you to keep a permanent copy of the book in digital form. Scanned books are weightless, making them easy to carry around and there will be less clutter and less need for bookshelves. A scanned book can also be adjusted to make the font into an easily readable size, and with a multi-monitor set up, you can word process on one monitor and read the textbook from the other monitor.Note: This article assumes that you are using Windows and a scanner compatible with Windows.

When it comes to Shaped Bokeh, it is all about the shape of the hole where the light goes through. Heart shaped hole creates heart shaped bokeh, stars shaped hole creates stars shaped bokeh and so on....
If you want your bokeh to be a little more elaborate you have to be pretty darn good with an exacto knife. So crude shapes are fine, but what if you wanted to do something more delicate, like writing a word. I mean, even Dr. Shepherd can only get that precise with an exacto knife. (lady readers in the audience?).
Videographers Jimmy Wong and Laurasaurus Rex (Lore), came up with a prety clever way to create delicate bokeh shapes. They used Transparencies (and kinda replicated my bokeh masters kit in the process - all for a good cause).

Materials: Malm king size bed, 2 lamps (as normally used in kitchens), screws, wire and switch
Description: We had a baby and since we have to feed him at night we decided some "soft lighting" was needed in the bedroom. The idea was to install 2 lamps, as the ones normally used in kitchens under the bed structure with 2 screws per lamp. The wires go to a switch screwed in the back of the bed. The light reflects in the floor and provides enough light to feed, change diapers and so, without "blinding" none of the people in the bedroom!
