Filed under: Small Spaces, Living SpacesTom KrauetlerWhat's the fastest way to get to the front door from the second floor? Through the ceiling! While replacing the floor in an upstairs bathroom, this homeowner momentarily forgot the age-old carpenter's adage for strolls among exposed floor joists: Always walk on wood!DiagnosisThanks to a step in the wrong direction during this bathroom remodel, ceiling repair and repainting are now on this homeowner's to-do list. Patching over the damage is[...]

Add to myYahoo! We all love a photo that tells a story. In stories we talk about sub plots. Subplots can relate to the main plot and enrich in it many ways.
It can prelude the main plot and help create emotional attachment to the characters. It can contradict the main plot and provide irony. It can resonate with the main plot, making its point stronger.
In photography we have subject and background (or far plain). The background can relate to the subject, in similar ways that a sub plot relates to a main plot.
To illustrate that point I decided to use images with shaped bokeh.

Creative Ways to Embellish and Enhance Photographic Images
was gracious enough to participate in a little "interview" and give us a bit of insight into her creative world!
Enjoy!
These 2 are recent mixed media artworks.
This is called ?Asian Texture.?
This one is ?framed? by a rusty old round tin.
1. What does your workspace/design space look like?
My workspace is in the lower level of my split level home, taking up about a quarter of the entire floor! And even then I run out of space and have to reorganize! It?s not picture perfect; hence, no photo of that!2. Do you save your mistakes or designs you don't love right away - or ditch them?
OMG, NEVER throw away canvases or papers that can either be repainted or repurposed! I DO paint over some canvases completely if they?re too, too hideous.3. What's on your "next to try" list?
Another book with my co-author, Geri Greenman, and a solo book, too!5. Do you ever work with recycled materials?
Almost exclusively! Not really, but I rarely buy art supplies if I can help it.6. What music do you listen to when designing?
As a very deaf person now, I miss the inspiration of music while I work, and I recommend rock and roll classics to the hearing artists out there!9. What books/magazines do you read?
I read all the new Quarry books that come out, and more! MUCH more.10. How would you describe your personal style?
I have several, just to keep things exciting! Artists must never become too comfortable in any single style. Stretch yourselves!!!11. How do you determine what a design is going to be made with?
Tough question, Stef! I have no idea, actually. Color scheme helps determine materials to some extent, as does serendipity.12. Do you have a collection of anything?
I have four horses. My collection is down from the all-time high of fourteen!13. And the all important question (from Ravelry) what is your favorite swear word?
Married to an old Navy man, I have lots and lots, but I do try to control myself. Thanks Paula for sharing!

Thisbook teaches you to think of a photograph as a canvas for a widerange of artistic manipulation and coloring techniques.
Onceupon a time, you hesitated to even take scissors to a photo (even animperfect one) because if you lost its negative, you?d also lose thatmoment in time forever. In this day of digital images and photoprinters for the home computer, photographs are easily duplicated, soyou never have to be concerned about preserving printed photos. Thephoto is now an art medium that can be altered physically or digitallyto create all kinds of effects. Youcan cut, color, collage, and camouflage to your heart?s content!
Paula Guhin is a former educator, visual artist, photographer, and the author of the ever-popularGlorious Glue, Art with Adhesives, published by J. W. Walch, and Can WeEat the Art?
