This weekend is the 26th Annual DIFFA Dining by Design event in Kansas City! This is my second year as a designer and I couldn't be more excited. Last year, my first as a designer, was such an incredible experience and I am looking forward to meeting even more talented, fantastic local artists.
The next 4 days will be a whirlwind of setting up, celebrating and taking down! Here's a very sneak peek of the early setting up stage-
As you can see, I went for a totally different color scheme and feel this time. It's bright, bold and totally out of my comfort zone. Can't wait to show you the final look. Wish me luck! best, S

Add to myYahoo! The Pumpkin Flax Bread is quick to make, there is no rising. It is full of fiber, omega-3's from the flax and walnuts, and some vitamin C from the fresh cranberries. The flax and the other rising ingredients (baking soda, baking powder, and salt) are used in lieu of the eggs to help provide the necessary leavening and moisture. The bread is very moist! Flax has many beneficial health properties too! Click here to learn more about flax. You can add more sugar if you would like it sweeter, a touch of molasses, or increase the spices if you want a little more kick.Watch the video, print the recipe, prepare any one of the dishes and you'll find yourself saying "That's Vegetarian?!"For the recipe and more information go to www.thatsvegetarian.comHosted by Karen BukoltProduced by Karen Bukolt and Mike QuickProduction facilitated by Quick ONE Media, www.quickonemedia.comWebsite design www.Oscorp-ink.com

Add to myYahoo! This is a quick and easy cream of tomato soup yet very yummy. It will go great with a salad, grilled cheese, ciabatta bread, or just by itself.A classic, complementary match for tomato soup is a light and crisp white such as a Sauvignon Blanc or Albarino. For an interesting contrast to the acid of the tomatoes, that also won't overpower the soup, you can try a light fragrant white such as a Pinot Gris, or fuller-bodied Viognier. If you want to go red, think light and low tannins. Grenache or Merlot are nice choices, or Italian reds such as a Chianti or Barbera d'Alba.~Sherrie Smith, OenophileFor the recipe of this dish go to: www.thatsvegetarian.comHosted by Karen BukoltProduced by Karen Bukolt and Mike QuickProduction facilitated by Quick ONE Media, www.quickonemedia.com

Materials: STOLMEN post + mounting fixtures, sisal rope, small shelf, HESSUM doormat
Description: Because cat furniture is the ugliest around and my friend needed every inch of her small apartment, I came up with this minimalistic climbing post
.
The shelf was on the wall already. The parts I needed cost about 60 euros.
Steps:
1) I had to buy the 40 meters of rope in four 10 meter pieces. If you can get the rope in one piece, it will help you much. If not, then join the pieces to get a one long stretch of rope. I used a technique called splicing (splicing links here) and got pretty good results.
2) Remove any cats from the room where you are about to install the post.
3) Cover the shelf with HESSUM doormat so the critters can get a good grip. Cut the mat to size and attach it with small screws. Install the shelf to the wall.
4) Install the STOLMEN post next to the shelf.
5) Attach the rope to the bottom of the post using the STOLMEN mounting fixtures. Start coiling the rope around the post. Use gloves, keep the rope tight and give it a few hits from a hammer on every 5 rounds or so to make it tight.
6) When you reach the top, use another STOLMEN mounting fixture to attach the rope. You can use cable ties to attach the rope temporarily.

This hack can be easily extended by installing more shelves to the wall.
Longer version of the instructions and more pictures here.

I often get asked what exactly is Ice and Water Shield. When I first started receiving this question I was somewhat shocked that people were unaware of this roofing product. Ice and water shield has been a godsend in the housing industry for years now. It is used for protecting homes and roofs from water and ice damage and every responsible builder and roofer uses it today.
So what is ice and water shield? Simply put, it is a flexible and sticky membrane that is
placed on the roof sheathing prior to installing the shingles. This membrane seals up
leak-tight around roofing nails that puncture it. It is used mainly along the roof
edges and in the valleys, and along walls or chimneys to protect against ice dams and water seeping underneath flashing.
Ice and water shield is commonly sold in 3 foot width rolls. Typically one or two courses of it is installed along the roof eaves to achieve 3 to 6 feet of coverage. In the roof valleys it is usually positioned so that there is about 18 inches of coverage on either side of the valley. Where a roof abuts a wall the ice and water shield is typically installed up the wall 6 to 18 inches. House siding is then installed over it.
So if you are having your roof reshingled make sure that the roofing contractor includes the installation of ice and water shield in the quote.
