In the aftermath of my nail-gun accident I’ve gotten on a safety kick, so I’ve been looking for a good pair of safety goggles. I stumbled upon these DeWalt DPG82-11C clear, anti-fog, dual-mold safety goggles over at Amazon for $12. DeWalt makes the goggles from a tough polycarbonate for impact-resistance, and they feature a replaceable [...]

Add to myYahoo! This past year has made with the Crazy and I have felt this Crazy more acutely than I normally would because my normal oasis of calming fibery sedation has been limited. I’m lucky if I can get in 2-3 hours of either spinning or knitting a week and it’s really starting to show, I’m becoming shorter tempered than normal and my empathy and sympathy have taken a vacation. I’m general I feel like I’m becoming less and less suitable to be in General Population, which just adds to the foul mood and makes me withdraw further and things get compounded. Now, I have hit that point where a bizarre survival instinct I have has kicked in: Self Pity makes me break out in hives of Angry (this is a large part of the reason why I made a crappy Goth) and I start looking for ways to fix the problem. These are a few solutions I have come up with:
1: Get some perspective!
It’s going to be a bit before I can have a dedicated studio space where I can have all my fiber equipment set up at the ready, until that time comes I need to reacquaint myself with small, easily portable projects that are simple yet rewarding. I need to be able to pick it up and and put it down regularly and not have to worry about losing my place or the kids messing around with my equipment. So, my hand spindles are going to get dusted off and pressed into service and I’m pulling out all my simple yet elegant WIPs. Complex knitting and other grandiose projects are going to take a back seat for a bit.
2: Learn something new!
I want to learn Amigurumi and Nuno felting! Anyone care to teach me or know where in the city there is going to be a class?
3: Get out of the house!
I need to learn that the kids and Chris are fine on their own for a few hours and I shouldn’t try to micromanage everything, I hated it when various bosses did it to me so why the hell would I do it?!
That is the game plan, it’s simple and straight forward which will carry a greater chance of success! I think I’ll treat myself to a hand spindle I have been eying for sometime to help me kick start my plan.

Add to myYahoo!Filed under: miscellaneous, beauty and skin careYou know how it is: gals with straight hair envy their curly-haired friends, and ladies with straight hair wish they could have bouncy ringlets. As a member of the curly-hair club, I've always envied the people I know whose stick-straight hair looks terrific first thing in the morning -- and doesn't go frizzy at the first sign of humidity. After years (and years, and years) of trying to wrestle my locks into submission, I've learned to embrace the[...]
