Happy Mother's Day!
I thought a long time about what to get my mom this year. I decided to make her two outdoor signs.
My mom's home is the gathering place for summer parties and family get-togethers. She has a swimming pool and patio with outdoor chairs, bar and dining area. It's right off the basement equipped with everything needed for entertaining (a bar, lots of seating, pool table, etc). To redirect guests to the back yard, she tacks a handwritten note on the front door to "go around back".
I made her a sign to lead the way for guests so she doesn't have a tape a note to the front door anymore. Materials: a wooden arrow sign, Deco Art Patio Paint, vinyl as stencil and Polycrilic sealer.
Turn the sign, and it's a welcome to the front door when a pool party isn't going on...
Last year she bought this outdoor fabric:
and over the winter, I sewed new cushion covers for her bar stools and gave her swing a new seat cover, armrests and canopy. I have no desire to sew again any time soon! Hardwork!
I used a piece of left over fabric, a wooden plaque, Deco Art Patio Paint and Decoupage to create a fun coordinating sign for her covered patio area.
See the full tutorial at
For her birthday...I'm thinking fun outdoor lighting might be in order. Something like this would be perfect:
and these outdoor chairs around the fire pit would be perfect too...

Although I do not own a Honda machine but this nicely done Honda Civic EK make me can't resist to post it. Why I say this is a nicely done Honda Civic EK and can't resist to post it here? This is because the car is equipped with a 3.2L J32 engine. Let me say it again, a 3.2L in a Honda Civic EK. This is a serious modification and is not a child's play.
I do not have much information about the car but the owner from Canada has made this conversion nice and clean. The engine fitted nicely into the Civic EK engine bay and it looks like the original from factory.

Add to myYahoo! Finally! Something to pick from the garden. It seems like it’s taken forever to get going this year. Although looking back, my first radish last year was apparently May 17, so maybe it’s not as bad as I think.

One Japanese White Icicle and one Champion. I pulled a small Early Scarlet Globe too so we could have a taste test. The Champion seemed most like a grocery store radish. The Early Scarlet Globe was milder. The Japanese White Icicle had more bite and seemed to have an earthier flavor. All pretty good, though!

A little while back we introduced an electric DIY which was designed to help reduce the luck factor when going on a stormy night to photograph lighting. It involved quite a bit of hardware and was aimed towards DSLRs that have an external trigger jack.
Turns out there is an easier way for most Canon P&S owners. It is called CHDK. We discussed CHDK before when we showed how to make Hi Res time lapse movies. This time CHDK comes to the rescue with a lighting catching script.
