Add to myYahoo!Every year since I was a little girl, I have attended the Designer Showcase House. It was my mom and my's ritual every Mother's Day. Now that she is gone, I continue to attend and always feel that she is there touring with me in spirit. Each year, a different home is selected and different local designers redo each room. It is a fantastic source of inspiration and this year was one of my favorites of recent years. It is open for the public to view from April to May and the proceeds benefit the Kansas City Symphony.
Here's a couple of my favorite rooms (being an old house, it was made of MANY smaller sized rooms)
I loved the sun room the best. The colors were gorgeous!
The antique birdcages and other flea market finds lined the ceiling.
Next up was the magnificent kitchen. Look at the painted ceiling. Genius! I don't usually like pot racks, as I think they make the space look cluttered, but this streamlined one works perfectly in here.
The custom backsplash was jaw dropping as well.
This sitting room was a perfect blend of elegance and comfort.
Now, the formal dining room made me want to run home and redo my dining room...again. The volunteer tour guide described this room as springtime in Paris. I call it perfection.
I seriously adored all the light fixtures throughout the home.
Like this one-
and this one-And these two:
A few more detail shots:??
All in all, it was a great tour!best, S

Add to myYahoo!Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts that are made using alcohol and chopped herbs. The tincture is especially effective in drawing out the essential compounds of plants, especially those that are fibrous or woody, and from roots and resins.[1] Since this method ensures that the herbs and their nutrients can be preserved for a long time, it is often mentioned in herbal books and remedies as a preferred way of using herbs. In addition, many herbalists love tinctures for other beneficial reasons, such as their being easy to carry, their utility for long-term treatments, and their ability to be absorbed rapidly, as well as allowing for immediate dosage changes.[2] As well, should the tincture prove bitter, it's easily added to juice to disguise the flavor. Another benefit of tinctures that that they keep nutrients from the plants in a stable, soluble form and they retain the volatile and semi-volatile ingredients that are otherwise lost in heat-treatment and processing of dry herbal extracts.

Think of it as mid-2000s industrial. Or jobsite chic. Kidding aside, we checked out the Blaklader pants a few years ago, and besides their love-it-or-hate-it look, they are pretty damn durable and practical, assuming you choose some more durable footwear.
The pants you see in the photo are what Blaklader calls their “heavy worker” pants, made of a poly-cotton blend reinforced with Cordura. They’re heavier than they look, too, and they look pretty heavy.
What I didn’t realize is that Blaklader now offers other simpler pants as well, including a “bantam pant” (which ditches the black patches and is made of lighter, smoother 100% cotton) and a “toughguy painter” which includes just the Cordura knee pockets/reinforcement.
And for you freeballers*, they offer a kilt. Really.
Heavy Worker Pants [Blaklader]
* I’ve been reliably told that if you wear underwear with a kilt, it’s technically a skirt. Just sayin’.

Add to myYahoo!Delta has now put up their new website which is free of Porter Cable for the first time in a long time. Though many are still a little wary of the new look and new resulting company, we’re stoked that at least we’re seeing where they are headed. In short, it’s business as always.
The site offers some new tools in the works with a straightforward design that shows you what’s up with the current line. As Delta said a few months ago, they haven’t discontinued anything that they’re currently producing in the major power tool category, and they are setting up shop to focus exclusively on woodworkers.
Bitch if you will, but they are true to their word. The site looks pretty good (if familiar) as well.

Materials: Expedit 4x2
Description: My girlfriend really wanted some kind of pet. Guinea pigs would be fine... something like that. As I'm an aesthete - at least think to be - the hutch had to fit in the living room nicely. An Expedit meets my requirements, but is too small for guinea pigs. It wasn't too hard to convince her of Gerbils
(first look: "sweeeeeeeeet" *g*).
The Expedit has to contain the hutch and the things one needs to care for his rodents. I decided to use 3/4 for the hutch.
For three apartments two small cubicles are combined. The Expedit boards spanning two cubicles can be used vertically or horizontally.
Wire netting in the upper part keeps the rodents from too much freedom. Each apartment gets a drawer with a glass front for easy cleaning.
As the rodents shouldn't jump from one floor to the other, tubes would solve that issue fine.
Therefore I cut 4 holes in the right side and two in the middle board.
See more of the Gerbil haven.
