Where to Buy Dress Forms and How To Alter Them

While you wait for the day to score yourself a vintage dress form at an estate sale you can make a new one look old and save a ton of money in the process

This started out as a new $20.95 white form. The back of the form is open and has a knob for adjusting the height. It has a heavy solid acrylic base.

I Mod Podged on vintage sheet music (I have a love hate with Mod Podge...what a mess!)

I printed graphics from Graphics Fairy onto sheet music by putting sheet music in my printer instead of plain paper. Then tore the sheet music and strategically placed the graphics.
  I gave the form a light spray of walnut ink while it was still wet, if you wait until it dries the stain will bead up on top of the Mod Podge

I hot glued vintage lace on the bottom and I have myself a vintage looking form

A form could be covered with wrapping paper, pattern paper, Or the artists out there could paint them..... Oohh I can see a form painted with some fabulous roses. I covered this one with fabric dipped in starch.

You are all so creative the skies the limit on how you will transform a dress form

OK, now where to purchase them.  If you live in Orlando or Baltimore you are lucky enough to have a Barr Display store in town, but if not you can order online.
They have an online catalog, but it is difficult to use. Even though I knew what I wanted I could not find it. You might want to book mark this.

This is two parts, the form and the base.  The form can be used alone and has a swivel hanger.The form is $8.98 The base is $12.00The form and base are #8020 and come in black and white. Put #8020 into searchThe shipping is actual cost and should be around $7-$8 Barr Display is the store.
If you are interested in a full form with a swivel hanger it is #8030 and costs $9.95
They also sell full dress forms with bases, look in the online catalog

Just so you know, Barr Display has no idea I exist. I am just letting you know where I purchase my forms at a reasonable price. If you would like to share your source we would love to know!

  I love the way they look in my booth and use them to display jewelry and vintage clothes.

Project: It Just Depends How You Look At Things

The oak tree in my yard had seen better days. It had never been a great tree, mostly due to the fact that the jackholes who planted it never spread the roots or unpacked it from its root ball — it was never to be a long-lived tree. So when it blew over a few weeks ago I was not riddled with shock once I found out what had happened. I looked at the now-dead tree and thought it could still serve a useful purpose, other than firewood.

First I cut it to a six-foot length and stripped the branches off, then removed a lot of the roots that had rotted and were not strong. A quick shave with a knife in a strategic pattern produced a nice carved feel that left a little discoloration here and there for effect.

A few coats of shellac and a bit of leather work mixed with a big-ass glass diamond turned what was a sad little dead tree into a great wizard staff for my sister, who is very into going to Renaissance fairs in costume.

It all depends on how you look at things, I suppose. The Mrs. saw a dead tree, and I saw a badass instrument of magic.

I’m not going to tell you that it’s something best left to the professionals, because it really burns me up when people shill like that, but I am going to say that you might want to think about using a safety line if you do go up.

This removable roof anchor from SafeWaze provides a secure D-ring to attach a safety line. The heavy duty steel anchor work on roofs of any pitch. You secure the anchor over the peak of the roof, making sure you nail it into the rafters.
